How to Play Undercover
Learn the rules of the viral Discord word game in under a minute.
1. Add Undercover to Discord
Click "Add to Discord" and select your server. Undercover installs as a Discord Activity. No separate app needed. Works on desktop, iOS, and Android.
2. Start a game
Open a voice channel or text chat and launch Undercover from the Activities shelf. Invite 3 to 12 friends to join. The host can customize settings like timers, word categories, and the optional Phantom role.
3. Get your secret word
Each player receives a secret word. Most players (the Citizens) get the same word. One player (the Undercover) gets a similar but slightly different word. If Phantom mode is on, one player gets no word at all.
4. Give clues
Take turns giving a one-word clue about your word. The challenge: be specific enough to prove you know the word, but vague enough not to reveal it to the Undercover.
5. Discuss and vote
After everyone has given a clue, discuss who seems suspicious. Whose clue was too vague? Too specific? Too off? Vote to eliminate the most suspect player.
6. Reveal and win
The eliminated player's role is revealed. If they were the Undercover, Citizens win! If not, the game continues into the next round with fewer players. The Undercover wins by surviving until only 2 players remain.
Pro Tips
- • As a Citizen, avoid giving clues that are too obvious. The Undercover is listening and will adapt.
- • As the Undercover, pay close attention to other players' clues to figure out the real word.
- • As the Phantom, listen carefully and mirror the confidence level of other players. Don't be the first to give a clue.
